It is very important to remember that BMI is only one piece of a person\'s health profile. Two people can have the same BMI but different percentage body fat. Waist circumference, smoking, physical activity level and diet are some other factors that your doctor would also consider.
Body mass index can be calculated using kilograms(kg) and metres(m), using this equation:

BMI = weight in Kg divided by height (in metres) squared

For example, a person who weighs 65Kg and is 1.5 metres tall has a BMI of 27:

BMI = 65kg
(1.5m)x(1.5m)
=27

Below 18.5................Underweight
18.5 - 24.0................Normal
25.0 - 29.9................Overweight
30.0 and above..........Obese
